Susan served as Galveston County District Court Judge from 1991 to 2003, winning election 3 times: 1990, 1994, & 1998. Her last term of office ended 12/31/02.
 

From 2003 to present, Susan has served as Judge Sitting by Assignment in the District and County Courts of Texas.

She has worked as an arbitrator with National Arbitration Forum for 2 years.
 

She serves on the Editorial Board of the Texas Center for the Judiciary’s In Chambers Magazine.

She is a trainer for the Texas Center for the Judiciary Professional Development Program for the Court Coordinators.

She was instrumental in obtaining security for the Galveston County Courthouse.

She has been a licensed attorney since 1982.

She is a member in good standing of the Texas Bar Asociation and of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas and a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
 

Susan was instrumental in founding the following programs:

• Galveston County Resource and Crisis Center
• CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
• For Kids Sake (a parenting program)
• Galveston County Mediation Program, including Financially Aided Mediation
• Texas Chapter of Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, serving as State President in 2000-2001

She wrote two grants to reform the court system in child abuse and neglect cases.

She was the recipient of the Resource and Crisis Center’s Helping Hands Award.

She reformed the Juvenile delinquency processing systems.

Susan has served on Island Youth Board, Galveston County Community Supervision and Corrections Dept. Board, Galveston County Juvenile Probation Board, Galveston County Pretrial Release Board, Galveston County Mediation Board.

She spent 2 years as a Galveston County Adult Probation Officer.

Susan is an active volunteer. Prior to taking the bench, she was a:

• volunteer for Ball High School’s Project Graduation, Central Middle School’s Career Days and Library Book Fair.
• volunteer attorney for County Senior Citizens Program, for which she received a commendation from the Texas Young Lawyers Association. 
• volunteer attorney for Galveston Legal Secretary’s Moot Court.
• volunteer attorney for Young Lawyers Moot Court for high school students
• volunteer attorney at the Resource and Crisis Center
• Intern and Volunteer with Harris County Juvenile Probation Department
• volunteer attorney for Galveston Independent School District
• Deputy Voter Registrar
• volunteer at Strand Theater
• volunteer for Armed Forces Little Theater
• legal counsel to Resource and Crisis Center
• served 6 months on Grand Jury
• Lassie League Board of Directors
• YWCA Board of Directors President

She is a frequent speaker for the United Way, Library Associations, writers organizations and such entities such as Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Servces, CASA, police departments, bar associations, legal secretaries, Rotaries, Lions, and NAACP youth and is a Life Member of NAACP.

Susan was selected Boss of the Year by the Galveston Legal Secretaries Association.

She served 7 years on Firemen’s Pension Fund Board.

She is endorsed by the Galveston County AFL/CIO.

She has served as Democratic Chair, Pct. 23 & 24, and has been a delegate to Democratic Precinct, County, and State Conventions. She is Past Treasurer of Galveston County Democrats, Past President of Galveston County Young Democrats, and Past Secretary of Young Democrats State Convention.

Education & Personal Life

Susan is a 1981 graduate of South Texas College of Law, Houston, and a member of Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity. She is a 1976 graduate of University of Houston at Clear Lake, and a 1967 graduate of Ball High School, Galveston.
